Description
Recipient of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, the ‘Aztec Pearl’ Mexican Orange Blossom is an evergreen shrub that delights with wonderful fragrance and color. In late spring to early summer and again in fall, it features a profusion of star-shaped white flowers filling the air with a divinely sweet aroma resembling orange tree blossoms, hence the common name. The flower clusters are so abundant that they nearly cover the aromatic, glossy, bright green three-lobed leaves on an upright, rounded shrub that reaches 7 to 8 feet tall and equally wide. It is excellent as a specimen in garden beds, flowering shrub borders, home foundation plantings, and containers. You might be happy to know the deer and rabbits won’t touch it, and it’s virtually disease-free and drought-tolerant when established.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 7 to 8 feet tall and equally as wide, the Aztec Pearl Mexican Orange Blossom is ideal for use as a specimen in garden spaces and containers, groupings in landscape borders, or as a colorful and fragrant hedge or background plant. It is also an excellent accent in home foundation plantings and a fine addition to a sunny flowering shrub border, fragrance garden, yellow theme garden, and cottage garden.
Aztec Pearl Mexican Orange Blossom is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil and lots of sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. When established, it has good drought tolerance. Light pruning after spring flowering will encourage a heavier fall bloom. Feed in early spring with organic plant food or quality slow-release shrub and tree fertilizer.Â
