Description
One of the strongest blooming Buddleia in our gardens, from late spring to near frost, the sterile, non-invasive Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush features abundant 6 to 8-inch wands of honey-scented raspberry-purple flowers that will not go unnoticed by the butterflies and hummingbirds. Clothed in attractive gray-green foliage, Hot Raspberry is a dwarf that might reach 3 to 4 feet tall and wide, making it a good fit as an accent for smaller garden spaces and containers, or in groupings or as a hedge where space allows. Easy to grow, as with all butterfly bushes, this one is drought tolerant when established, and deer turn their nose to it.
Landscape & Garden Uses
We have Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush growing in garden beds and pots. In the ground, its 3-foot height with an equal or slightly wider spread makes it an ideal choice for smaller garden spaces, where larger growing butterfly bushes won’t fit. In containers, it doesn’t grow quite as large, maybe 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide or so. That said, we’d suggest a larger pot of at least 15 inches or more in diameter. It is also ideal in groupings or as a hedge in larger landscape spaces and is a natural choice for butterfly and hummingbird gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 3 feet apart for solid hedges or groupings; 6 feet apart or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Buzz Hot Raspberry Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow. It thrives in full to mostly sun and isn’t too picky about soil type, provided it is well-drained and of average fertility. For best flowering, we suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. As with so many other plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause problems with the roots.
