Description
Very unique among Buddleia, commonly known as Butterfly Bush, the flower panicles of the ‘Grand Cascade’ arch downwards giving the 5 to 6 feet tall and 7 to 8 foot wide bush a distinct weeping look like a cascading fountain. Beginning in mid to late summer, the ENORMOUS, fragrant, light lavender-purple flower panicles are the largest we’ve ever seen on any Buddleia, reaching up to a whopping 14 inches long and 4 inches wide. The butterflies and hummingbirds will have no problem finding these giants! A hardy and easy-to-grow perennial shrub that puts on a spectacular, fireworks-like flower show in sunny flowering shrub and perennial borders or as an accent in home foundation plantings.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in an upright arching mound 5 to 6 feet tall and 7 to 8 feet wide, the Grand Cascade Butterfly Bush is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings or as a hedge in sunny gardens beds or shrub or landscape borders. Also a nice accent plant in home foundation plantings or around patios, porches, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the flowers and butterflies and hummingbirds feeding can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, hummingbirds gardens, fragrance gardens, purple theme gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 5 to 5.5 feet apart for solid hedges or mass plantings;Â 10 feet or more for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Grand Cascade Butterfly Bush is exceptionally easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. We suggest 6 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. Has good drought tolerance when established but does not like a waterlogged soil. No pruning is necessary however deadheading spent flowers after the bloom encourages reblooming well into fall.Â
